2012 is round the corner hmm.

2011 was well, NS and it seemed to have passed in the blink of an eye. the year got a bit better in sept (for kinda obvious reasons), but didn't really accomplish much really, but oh well, kinda hard to do much >< hopefully (and probably) next year will be better and i'll get to read more, learn more and do more stuff like get my driving licence and other shit.

lion king was a highlight, so was hongkong. may 2012 bring more things for me to cheer about (united just lost, i'm emo. may all shitty stuff go away with 2011)

Yeah. Time flies by. But sometimes it doesn't seem to make sense to me. Like for example I know I've been through a lot of stuff in the army for the past (nearly) 9 months, and yet everything seems to have zoomed past and sometimes I find myself unable to remember much details from the things that I knew were supposed to be memorable, whether good or bad. This feeling that I've basically spent 9 months this year doing things that I can barely remember sucks. Why :( I don't want to simply live in the moment, and forget everything when it's over. Maybe it's a sign that I'm wasting my life away.

Lion King was awesome! The sets and costumes were so elaborate zomgzomg

Mylo Xyloto is WOW. It was a damn good album that is befitting for a band like Coldplay haha. I love how Coldplay dares to try new things in every album, and so far it has always been a success (to me at least).

during the past two months -- (in chronological order) climbed mountains in sweltering heat in Taiwan, had fun at theme parks in Taiwan, came back from Taiwan, watched a certain 8-2 match, marched 32 freaking kilometres, slacked in bunk, had nights off, xin min left for the UK, sheryl left for the UK, PASSED OUT AS THIRD SERGEANTS, got posted to BMTC, jiahui left for the UK, walked around like a boss in BMTC, did math in BMTC, lepaked in BMTC. Yeah. quite an exciting life indeed. More to come! For instance, watching Lion King this saturday muahaha.

Oh, who am I kidding. Life hasn't been very exciting >< after ppl left for the UK the already-dying tradition of class outings died even further. all we had in nearly a month was a LAN outing that I didn't even go for. zz. now that I have uni apps to do (again! sian!) I probably can't go for all these stuff for another couple of weeks. oops.

But then gladly there have been reliable cricket and soccer streams (and recently, rugby. but i only watched 1.5 matches). and FIFA 12 and stupid internet memes to keep me company. oh my, a loner I have become. forever alone (see, what did I tell you about the memes?) :'(

I want cookies. and coldplay's new album. aaron might like the name cauz it has "Mylo" in it, which probably tastes the same as Milo anyway.

Founder's Day and other musings

Went back to school a few weeks ago for Founder's Day, it was a great feeling :D meeting up with a bunch of old friends and teachers as well as some juniors who are truly imba.

Rushed from guard duty to RI, was an hour "late", only to realize that I could have been half an hour later and not missed a thing. Zz. should not have ran from guardhouse to company line and back. could have taken a leisurely stroll =.= never trust the timings written on invitations lol. And really, 2 hours for rehearsal? I don't think so!

Mrs Lim's speech highlighted many of the new things happening. Wowz. the new "command centre" is up and working, but that's not all. The Raffles Diploma is now fully-fledged and the new batch will be awarded various kinds of the diploma. that being said i'm not exactly very jealous of them haha, from what I know and heard from the juniors it's kinda difficult and needs lots of hard work to get the diploma with distinction. yeah. and they're complaining left right centre.

What is really making me jealous is the "gap semester" for sec4s. like, wow? visit CERN, go to UN HQ, do math in Stanford. It's really like a 5 month OSAP (which I never had the chance to go for), with even more attractive venues and programs. :O why wasn't I born a few years later..

But then, had I been born a few years later, I would definitely have complained about missing out something else by a few years (maybe an attachment with NASA, which will be :OOO). It's like that isn't it? There's always something that we miss out by a bit (raffles programme, RA, Hodge Lodge even, now this gap semester thing). and this will never end. the day it ends is the day that Raffles (or any other organization, for that matter) stops improving.

I've been reading a novel called "Homer and Langley" (thanks cornell for the free book haha) and in it a "theory of replacements" is mentioned. it is said that this theory is the basis for everything in life. And it seems right doesn't it? A new, exciting programme will only be replaced by a newer, more exciting one. And that's how it will be. I'm actually proud of being a Rafflesian, and proud of being a part of this Institution that never ceases to innovate and excite. Strange, actually. While I was in school I never had such a feeling. But yeah. It's a good feeling really.

Met Haran today! yay after so long :D hopefully he'll come round during his vacations (not very hard for him actually, since he gets free tickets anyway haha)

That time of year is here. People are starting to leave for uni overseas. well, actually only 4 ppl from my class are leaving this year (the rest who're going overseas are already not in sg haha). But they'll be back in december (hopefully). And it was a pleasant surprise that many scholars are back in sg for university. yay at least there are people to keep the NS dudes company.

Flying to taiwan later, hopefully it'll be a fruitful 3 weeks :D looking forward to the R&R haha!

one more week to "POP", basically it's the end of foundation term. And i get to become a corporal :D and wear a beret heh. only 28km route march left! gogogo!

Plans to watch kung fu panda 2 today were disrupted thanks to heavy rain. fml lol stayed at home the whole day.

Can't wait to hang out with astro ppl! and the rest of the everybody whom i've not seen for so long :\ To be entirely honest, 6O outings, though still fun, have kinda lost its initial appeal that it had. Cauz we always end up doing the same things, watching movies which is the most anti-social thing you can think of, play pool, sing the same songs at Kbox (sheryl said this), and deciding what to do when there's nothing to do. and don't reach a decision anyway. But then again people will start leaving sg soon, xiaozhi already did, plus all the rest of the ppl going for uni this year, so should start treasuring all the outings! But then... dunno. somehow i just don't feel that enthu going for class outings anymore :[ sucks doesn't it. I'd rather have smaller group outings O: and somehow I've stopped planning all the outings. oh my.

I'm 19 (: haha. thanks 6O and BB12 for the birthday celebrations that totally didn't occur on my birthday xD then again on my birthday I was wandering around in a forest with a compass so yeah. Now I need to get for myself a new Rubik's cube just to peel off all the stickers hmm.

2 weeks into SCS. 1/4 of foundation term over already, wow. Next week, more navigation (urgh) and some live firing yay. Then COS duty (urgh, on a sunday some more!) and field camp (double urgh).

The good thing about army is that there isn't really much time for you to emo or moodswing. But during bookout it's a different story altogether. Recently I haven't really been the happiest of persons on this planet (at this moment Obama is probably the happiest. Or maybe William and Kate). When your mind wanders it's a dangerous thing.

POP was like last week. It was awesome to say the least. That feeling I had between taking off my jockey cap and waiting for that cue to throw it was overwhelming. It just swelled up in me like some oversized warm fuzzy feeling; doubt i'd feel it again any time soon.

On to SCS now, looking forward to it. But i better get my life back together again, it's in a mess.

Haha before the results were released many ppl were like freaking out and everything, and strangely I felt no such thing. Probably cauz field camp was just before that so I couldn't be bothered to give a damn. Frankly speaking I felt more nervous getting my HCL results back in 09 lol.

NS has been good to me so far, hee. Quite welfare lah I guess, not complaining.

Other than that... well, trying to make the most of my book outs obviously, after I book in today it's gonna be 12 days again (like wth right?), but booking out next saturday for like half a day for us to go visit NUS/NTU open houses lol. only 5 weeks left to POP though, seems quite fast, and after the 12 days, left 3 weeks! and stuff like Sit Test and BTP will all be over so yay.

I shall try to watch a movie each time I book out haha. But sian couldn't watch black swan ytd, freaking lousy seats left. watched the adjustment bureau, which was quite good all the way until the ending, which was a piece of crap. It's like those kinda conclusions you write for your compo in p3, or those one line stuff at the end of your AQ cauz you're out of time. sian. anticlimax ttm.

One month has passed. So quickly

A significant amount of things happened this month. Teaching internship, outings with 6O, OG, 4B, BB, random groups of ppl and. mm. I guess I'm just trying to have as much fun as possible now, and who can blame me for doing that?

Can't believe that internship is ending next week. And next week is effectively only 2.5 days long. Sigh. I was just starting to know my students better and yeah, it's ending already. Damn. Good things don't last do they?

Yeah. Good things never last. I dunno. Suddenly it feels like I'm stuck in limbo (no reference to inception. zzz ever since i watched that movie "limbo" reminds me of it). People have been moving on with their lives and here I am, still here, hoping for things that will never come, all the while seeing people actually getting somewhere.

If you think you know what I'm talking about, you probably don't. sorry.

It's that time again, when we try to set resolutions for the new year and look at the old resolutions and going, "what a stupid resolution!" and hence resolve to never to set stupid resolutions again.

Urgh. I want to write a long, reflective post about the year but nothing's coming. Oh well.

2010 is a year full of changes I guess. Formal education ends, and for once farewell actually means farewell (unlike 2 years ago when farewell meant "meet you on the other campus!"). It's probably a major turning point, from now on we are no longer sheltered by that thing called "school". Real world from here on, folks. Sit tight.

Brain not working v well. If one day I end up in the mood I'll post something else.

Was pretty awesome! Haha weather was kinda screwed, damn horrible then good then bad then good then bad etc. But there were periods of good sky! Like for 3 hrs the sky was half-clear, but what matters was the clear parts were the ones where the meteors were, ie Orion, Taurus, Gemini, etc. whee!

Saw a total of 18 meteors, plus several more unconfirmed, probably tricks on the eye. not bad given the weather and light pollution. Sky cleared at like 530am and we saw like 5 more after that! cool shizz. If sky was perfect I think we would have seen like 50 through the night. but then that means no sleeping. Luckily I had faith in the weather and believed that the weather will clear. Hee. I love myself (:

Besides the meteor shower the whole thing was quite fun, tried to identify the airline of planes, talked alot about all sorts of stuff, tried to get vincent to pose beside the bmtc sign (we could see tekong from changi beach lol). etc. Nice stuff. sigh. sad that such times will be much more limited from now on.

the beginning

So it was over yesterday. H3 physics, the last paper. Followed by a sushi buffet.

Strange thing is, I felt no sense of joy or awesomeness that the whole thing's over. Like I was saying yesterday, maybe it was because the whole thing just dragged on for too damn long, and every time after a paper you feel slightly more liberated. So by the impulse-momentum theory you end up not really feeling exhilarated or anything.

Cleaned up my room today, threw away lots of stuff. It's kinda sad really. I looked at some of the worksheets I was gonna threw away, and on them were written (or drawn, or scrawled) the many memories of JC. Like the few BB12 mugging sessions that we had during which Delaney spammed her colourful stamps, or Hongbo and his anagram-drawing (and pokemon drawing haha i rmb how we fought to draw the easiest ones i.e. voltorb and electrode first), or Kaiyu and his randomness one day during GP when we had spelling, or a piece of paper with a large penguin courtesy of Xiaozhi (?) and many many sad smileys courtesy of me. Never will life be like that again. No more playing ball games during break (ok fine that ended last year march), no more talking cock during lunch, no more suanning of kaiyu and his best friend and just about everyone in class, no more chem, phy, math, econs, gp, pe, pw and falling asleep in almost every one of those classes (minus pe..). No more mugging sessions in the library, the classroom, or raja, no more laughing at urine-man and how he paces up and down while mugging. From here onwards I guess it's gonna be a dog-eat-dog world so yeah. enjoy while we can.

There's an old chinese song which has a line that goes something like "my life is a bunch of (train) ticket stubs". To a certain extent a part of my life is in those mountains of worksheets accumulated over these years. And yet I threw half of them away, including stuff like the past year prelim papers I did barely a month (or a day, if you talk about h3) ago. And the other half? It's currently on my shelf, but sooner or later it's gonna move into a box in the storeroom. And the only time I'll ever look at it again will probably be the day when I decide that it finally has to go. By then all these will be nothing but distant memories.

But of course I did keep some stuff which, for now at least, are quite significant. The only copy of the 6O class list which I managed to secure goes into the same place as the 4B class list (along with other lists). I still have a piece of paper on which we doodled our first idea of the class T-shirt (I'll upload it soon). But unfortunately, much as none of us wants it to happen, even these will slowly be forgotten. But when I dig them up again in the future, I'm sure they'll bring back fond memories of the time when we were still young and carefree (?)

And then there are things that are not found in worksheets. Nor are they written anywhere, for that matter. But guess I'll talk about them after gradnite. Yeah, there's still gradnite, but then, that'll really be the end. and the beginning.

I really hope some of you will come and read this. But advertising on facebook is too shameless. Never mind, even if none of you come here anymore, I write this for myself, and I'm satisfied.

The other day I came up with a new cosmic censorship hypothesis for Singapore. For those of you who don't know, the previous one (not the actual one) is that you can never view a sunrise or sunset in Singapore. The actual one is much less exciting -- there are no naked singularities in space. o.0 naked! maybe it's more exciting. to some. but then again, "there are no", so whatever the naked stuff are, there are none of it. so not exciting.

Yeah so anyway. Was damn frustrated with how the sky is screwed up when you want to stargaze and is actually clear when you don't =.= so

Hmm quite a few astronomical events coming up, moon passes close to venus twice in december. Geminids (of course). and the total lunar eclipse which is wtf not visible from Singapore. Which is freaking suay cauz the path of a lunar eclipse is much greater than a solar eclipse. but there's another one in dec 2011. failzorz. But 2011 geminids gonna be fail cauz of gigantic gibbous moon. This year's better. But cosmic censorship hypothesis.

2 more papers left. But it's rather depressing. I don't really want it to end, cauz I don't really want what's next to begin.

My Office 2010 Beta expired so I was headaching over what to do, whether to buy it for a whopping 150USD (expensive pls) or to erhmmmm obtain it via other means. Then somehow I went into control panel to screw around and I magicked out Office 2007 from nowhere! whee. I seriously dunno where it came from. I guess I din uninstall it when I installed 2010 so it was hidden in some dark recess of my comp. Alright good for me :D

Went to Daiso (at Sembawang shopping centre) today and bought stuff that were totally not needed. Even my parents agree.

It was kind of a toy-buying session lol. Bought 3 (!) jigsaw puzzles but they're like, 108 pieces and 300 pieces which i'll finish within a day. and the corresponding frames, and a slinky (!!) and some toy thingum (!!!). The only thing bought that was kinda needed was like a pair of scissors.

If only Daiso sells telescopes muahaha. $2 telescopes 0_0

Argh apochromats cost like 3k or more damn damn. mum says (half jokingly i guess) that she'll buy it if i agree to sell either my encyclopedia britannica (!) or my piano (!!). i dowan to part with either. screw.

ok at least the camera thing and solar filter are more affordable below 100 bucks.

June 6 2012 is the day when I'll pon NS by hook or by crook. whee.

I swear it's an acrobatic act everytime I try to look at solar system objects from my house. One of these days the telescope and/or the counterweight's gonna fall down 10 storeys and kill someone.

But till then I shall do whatever I like :D

Managed to get the Moon today. And thus begins my quest!

Saw Jupiter through the telescope for the first time in like, a year +. very beautiful. 4 moons were all clearly visible. Sigh if only my telescope was better. At 150x magnification small movements already makes the image cmi. and cannot focus properly due to aberrations. I don't even dare to try the 250x mag. One of these days I'm gonna get (in chronological order):

1. Good camera adapter

2. Camera tripod

3. DSLR camera

4. 8 inch Schmidt-Cass (haha)

5. Good eyepieces and solar filter

6. 4 inch apochromat

7. 16 inch schmidt (or dobsonian, cheaper)

8. Epic accessories and astrophotography stuff

Points 1 and 2 can probably be fulfilled this year but point 8 can probably be fulfilled soonest maybe 15 years. and point 4 (ie earliest new telescope) probably will be like, 6 years or more? So yeah. till then I shall have my trusty celestron powerseeker 127Eq (i.e. 5 inch newtonian). and my 10x50 binox. hee

ok just realized that the previous post was my 200th post. 200 posts in like 4+ years. that's... one post every 1 week or so. wow! not bad. but that just means that I used to post much more last time since this year i've posted like what? less than 10 posts.

Anw was looking through my older posts the other day and I realized how retarded I sounded =.= ok maybe I still sound retarded now but last time was much worse haha. i'm surprised at some of the things I posted, and the way I posted them.

Yesterday was farewell assembly, it's technically like graduation except that we haven't taken A levels =.= cauz there won't be a graduation ceremony, only got grad nite after A's.

I have mixed feelings about these two years. Some things went well, but others could have been better. It's only in retrospect that I realize the many things that could have been but never was and never will be. But it's too late. To apologize, to start anew, to whatever other song lyric you have. I shall look forward like I always try to do.

But it didn't really feel like the last day of sch or anything cauz, well, there's still many days of going to school, to mug, to take exams, to haha around. I like the last one best :D but then again must have self-control.

Ok Man U just drew with West Brom. go and die.

I shall embark on a new project soon. Actually I wanted to start today, but failed due to lack of equipment.

Wow, 3 months and 9 days without posting. New record :O

Ok now that Prelims are finally over i guess i can blog.

Term 3 was completely bleah. first were the screwed up CTs (I'm glad that I can say that Prelims went better), intensified by England's horrible trashing by Germany. Ok fine had fun playing pool and stuff after CTs and Spain won the World Cup (holy smoke seems like eons ago). Then PE ended (oh god), and somewhere towards the end of July something clicked and everyone went into ultra-mugger mode. Weekly badminton for like 3 weeks was somewhat of a reprieve. And so was tap tap :D hahaha. Oh not to forget all the Uni applications, which became one of the most common topics of discussion =.=

Haha in the middle of it all there was the winning of a thousand dollars HAHAHAHAHA FFGCC ftw.

Then was massive mugging, which meant that I had even less life than usual. Hmm. says a lot. Sept hols were spent dunno doing what, I think I was just so dazed from mugging I kinda forgot how the time passed. screw.

So now here we are, end of prelims. 2 day break starting tomorrow. Ok the "break" unofficially started last friday (lol) when some of us went to play badminton and eat sushi buffet and officially started today at around 9.30am. after (very) loudly complaining about the Chem paper went to play pool and kinda owned thanks to a combination of epic stupidity by the opponents and some massive skill (and luck) on my side. whee. Ok lunch. then the rest went kbox i had to go home :O ok nvm fun fun tmr got tennis whee

Calvin and Hobbes is damn good. Pity it's no longer releasing new content (yeah for 15 years alr). "there's never enough time to do all the nothing you want". Yeah. and in addition, all the "nothing" never come fast enough. ok by "nothing" i refer to stuff like glee and TBBT and naruto which obviously have nothing to do with studies. hence "nothing".

Sometimes I wonder what it's like to be a pet. like the 2 turtles I have at home, which do nothing but sleep and eat and busk in sunlight. and occasionally bite each other. hmm.

Life (probably) is awesome. I'm just waiting to discover its awesomeness.

Back from Shanghai! much too early, but ah, CTs ><

Shanghai was quite exciting on the whole haha, except well, the crowds. when my mum booked the tics she din realize that this week was dumpling festival which was a holiday in China. Oh well, not like there was any other time liddat. Next week would have been uncomfortably close to the CTs and the previous week my mum wasn't free. so yeah.

Went to the Expo only from 2pm to 8pm on the first full day there. hmm. Was pretty easy getting through the main gates, which gave me false hope lawl. Inside was a different story. damn packed. and apparently the day we went wasn't one of the worst days. So we din really go to alot of pavilions, cauz of the crowd and also cauz I had a cold ><. still visited a few good pavilions though, like France and Spain and Cambodia, thanks to my grandparents haha who provided us with quicker access. But alot of the pavilions stopped this express thingy alr, like UK, Singapore, etcetc cauz well, ppl have been abusing it. Like there have been stories of 9 ppl following one old person =.= and also wheelchair-bound visitors who recover mysteriously once inside the pavilion.

Some pavilions just sucked lol. Like Brazil. outside nice nice, inside nothing at all=.=

Rest of the days were spent shopping. But Shanghai stuff are ex! almost as ex as Singapore, even with their discounts. Converse shoes cost like 250 a pair, which is like 50 sing which is nearly the price here, and other stuff. And the people's attitudes suck too, but that's a norm in China haha.

Also went to their science and tech centre, pretty cool stuff, pwnz singapore science centre. watched some IMAX movies and walked through all the galleries etc.

Couldn't access fb or twitter or youtube or blog =.= what kinda censorship is this! but i guess it was just the internet provider i had, other ppl can use fb and stuff, and i've blogged in Beijing before

But, free world cup omg! Watched at least one match every night. Spain, wtf. Argentina vs Korea was cool stuff, so was Germany vs Australia. But germany just lost lol. The rest of the matches were decent I guess, not alot of goals this world cup :( Watched NBA game 5 too, could have watched game 6, forgot about it =.= but Lakers won yay.

Watched how to train your dragon and sherlock holmes on the way back. yup, i'm lag but whatever. good movies The entertainment system on the plane to shanghai sucked, i ended up watching part of valentine's day cauz there were few choices and how to train your dragon was screwed up (audio din match the vid diao). or else would have watched even more shit that i missed in the cinemas, maybe some older ones. Haha also watched some big bang theory, shit, damn hilarious. Oh well blame me for being damn slow cauz of not having enough cable channels.

Taxi is shit ex in Shanghai too, more ex than in Sg especially for long distances, like the one to the airport. lol.

Bought a 3 by 3 by 4 rubik's cube (cuboid?), like wth right? haha there was also a 1 by 3 by 3 thingy, but was too ex. Both were ex bleah, only bought it cauz it was v smooth and i haven't seen it in Sg (yet). Either way i'm still unable to make progress past the first layer (out of 4) ahhhhh.

Used to think everything is cheap in China, but that's no longer the case, sigh. no more massive shopping to be done, other than books and DVDs (pirated or otherwise), which are still cheaper (yup even real DVDs are cheaper)

On the whole though I think Shanghai isn't really that nice after all haha. Not alot of fun places unless you go to like nearby towns or stuff like Suzhou. I like Beijing better (: but haven't been there since 07 ohno hopefully end of year can go back.

mainly been mugging this past week, did a shitload of past year papers hahaha. past year papers are still the best way to mug in my opinion.

went out during the weekend, got a new camera :D :D :D :D :D lol since like middle of last year i've been trying to persuade my parents to get one, so yay. it's pretty damn good (nope, not dslr lah), long exposure night shots are really quite cool. and long exposure shots of the night sky! v nice, but was cloudy ytd. shall find a non-cloudy day and try it again.

WORLD CUP. in 2 days! zomg zomg haha I SUPPORT ENGLAND GO ENGLAND. though i still think Spain will win. oh well. If England wins i will be elated yayyay.

SHANGHAI IN 3 DAYS! hee. but Expo will be shit full of ppl, screw. I don't want to queue for 5 (or even 8! wtf) hours to get into the Saudi pavilion (referring to recent Today article) diao. ><

Just got back from stargazing/astro CIP not long ago, and it was a success :D

It's great (once again; i've experienced this many times before alr, i know) to see like people interested in astronomy and stargazing in Singapore. Cauz i always have a feeling that well, astro is not very well-liked and well-received in Singapore, but I guess that's kinda not true. Haha. The teachers from the Jamiyah Home actually know quite a bit about astro, and the children are also very interested and excited about it :D

And last night was also epic success for me, I found like everything that I looked for :D :D with a telescope that doesn't have fine controls some more. But yeah, have to thank Sheryl, Sethu and Peiqi for helping me with the telescope and stuff, cauz without fine controls it's really damn irritating. Yeah. Saw Jewel Box (which I also saw two days ago from home), Mizar, Izar (couldn't resolve though), Saturn, Moon (beautiful through the scope), M6, M7, and omega centauri. Omega centauri quite win, I was super tyco, like anyhow point the scope in the general direction and then it just appeared in the field of view wow. And Saturn never fails to impress me no matter how many times I look at it. Oh well, I need to start finding other stuff, because of all the stuff I found, only omega centauri was "new", the rest i've found before (esp jewel box, like dunno how many times liao. Everytime stargazing I'll go for jewel box first hahaha.) Yeah. It's time to go into the region of Sagittarius and find all the Messier objects. And should look at Carina too.

Had breakfast at Cafe Cartel, with its free flow of bread and everything. No need to eat lunch liao. Gotta sleep soon.

Gotten back all the results, and generally it's yay-ness, though it could have been better. hmm. Shall work harder for the rest of the exams this year.

Council camp coming up this weekend, yay looking forward to it! though it kinda signals the end of our term ): Met my 30th buddy, Dayna, today. Din really have much time to talk cauz it was in the morning before assembly, but i shall get to know her better in time to come haha.

Watched water polo yesterday, we won both (: heh, kaiyu powerful keeper! I got a bit darker though (which was promptly pointed out to me by my mum. Seriously, my skin colour's always the first thing she notices about me lol)

been doing lots of astro stuff lately due to less council stuff (we're nearing the end of our term :O) and of course no CTs until July. Haha. Astro ppl's so mad i tell you, i love them all (:

astrigue convention on the 3rd was ok, gave the same lecture 8 times (well that was kinda bad), and it rained, so no overnight obs (sighh) but we also had random singing, nerf gun battles and plants vs zombies playing sessions YAY.

astro lecture ytd (conducted by me ^^) was really good, or so i would like to think. But i think i managed to engage all of them and no one was like not paying attention (that doesn't include the J2s of course)

Today was astrigue competition day 1, invigilated stuff and marked data response, which (as predicted) was poorly done haha. Then had dinner at pizza hut, and cauz the wait was sooooo long, we (daniel aaron and i primarily) changed the lyrics of christmas carols into astro related stuff. For instance, "the 12 days of christmas":

RSN yesterday was a thrilling encounter. Glad we won! :D great job everyone! the margin of victory was the smallest possible (5 points), could've been larger if Dewin and I didn't "destroy" the buzzer, allowing BW to get 2 simple astro questions.

Happy Chinese New Year folks! haha. hope you've been having great fun eating all sorts of stuff and playing all sorts of games and collecting all sorts of money (well, maybe not all sorts, just SGD will do)

Let's talk about ORIENTATION 2010 G'alvea, the bestest orientation everrr!

Sigh, it's already been two weeks since it ended (two weeks since O'nite exactly haha), and I'm missing every bit of it. Even the bit about being sunburnt (bleah my skin's peeling off now, so lag haha), cauz throwing balls at J1s was damn fun! And the lane game was quite good too, except for random stampedes of people which made it impossible to keep track.

Day 1. Reached school at 7am filled with anticipation and excitement (who wouldn't be excited?) collected shirts, opacks blahblah and waited for what seemed like an ETERNITY until 9.30am. yeah. And finally it began. Saw BB12 2010 G'ot skillz for the first time haha. Everyone was quite stone and stuff, but that was completely expected. same happened to me. Last year I saw Hongbo and Hongfei and etc and I was like "WOW you guys in the same OG as me?" and proceeded to talk to them and daoed the rest of the OG.

Opening was fantastic! wow. Everyone was super super high during sun dance, which was damn good. and the shooting part was great too. Too bad we couldn't watch the last part of the opening cauz we were all shoo-ed outside, but at least i watched it during dry runs haha.

Followed by storyline. Storyline this year was BRILLIANT. kudos to Jaryl and Jon Lian and everyone else! Better than last year's, which was already very good. Unfortunately the mikes screwed up for some parts of it, but on the whole it was great. Suited our (as in, ppl of our age) taste perfectly -- all the lame jokes and stuff. "Man who play with game boy, has no life!"

Played some icebreakers after that, I finally got to know the name of everyone in the OG! Lunch after that, followed by staygay! "think happy, think REALLY happy". Everyone had plenty of fun during staygay i think, and I found out that my OG was really sporty (they pwned dodge ball and balloon touch rugby) but erm, not really v smart xD (they got pwned at the blow pingpong ball game and bomberman hahaha). Who cares though, things were great :D OG dinner at Sarpino's later, followed by some games (mostly polar bear, at Haran's request). Yeap, and that concludes day 1.

Day 2. Batch dance! haha. I like this year's batch dance yay. quite fun. Then after that I had to go for EA stuff cauz I'm a helper, so I missed batch song and cheers and storyline :( EA! I was stationed at Dhoby Ghaut. Heh, stupid security guard. At first the whole activity was at one place, but then it got shifted away cauz we apparently had no right to gather at an empty space. hmph. So for most of the time it was me and Biquan sitting at a bench and talking crap. And have random OGs come and go and sing us songs hahahahaha. Towards the end the guard came again and we were really worried that we might kena chased out. Ohwell, din happen in the end, which is good. Apparently some other station got canceled altogether, that's sad

After going back to school everyone left, we din want OG dinner anyway cauz everyone was super tired after EA and stuff. haha. Then me and stella and haran sat together and talked for like, 2 hrs! :O mainly we gossiped about our OGLings (LOL!) and talked about haran's life story haha. was great fun.

Saturday went to school to play some captain's ball with the OG! and I also rescued some of the decor. speaking of decor, decor this year was friggin brilliant. Yeah, you'd probably say I'm saying it cauz i'm in decor, but many other ppl have been saying it too! The hanging structure in the canteen walkway is the best of the best in my opinion.

Yeah after captain's ball went to play bowling at SAFRA yishun!

Day 3. Batch project, house hour. Wasn't especially exciting. Then war games! I roasted in the sun for 2 hours haha. Was station master for lane game. mmhmm. Sad, din get to see ppl playing strip me if you can.

Dinner after that at novena, following which Stella and I went shopping at Daiso and saw many many many many other OGLs also doing the same thing as us, i.e. last minute buying of gifts lol.

Day 4. Wah. Mad chionging of notes for OGLings. Really mad. And it din help that Lennard wasn't there and we were super short of guys for batch dance so I had to dance with Amanda and Haran had to dance with Jingjing. Then blahblah most of the time I din know what was happening cauz I was writing notes. Then war games finale! holy smoke, lucky I used sunblock and wore a cap, or else sure die even worse ah! haha.

O'nite! at first I wanted to chiong more notes for other ppl but it was damn dark and shit so i only wrote for haran and stella.

So then O'nite ended, bleah we din do sun dance or rain dance during O'nite! whyy. Gave OGLings gifts, and they went off for dinner, at Sarpino's again. Then for us it was clean-up. As if. Massive camwhoring and high-ing more like haha. after which a little cleanup was done.

And thus concludes orientation 2010.

Back to school, I was shocked (actually not really, I expected it) to discover that I was 3 topics behind for chem and similarly screwed for the other subjects. But heng, now i've roughly caught up :D

Take 5! hmm spent most of the time with BB12 2010. (bleah, how come BB12 2009 never meet up ah? zz) haha and thanks for the gift BB12 2010! yay. so nice. Played pool after take 5, I wasn't too bad yay! :D

Chinese new year after that wheeeeeeeeee. And it still is. Not too bad. Ate like mad. But wth i din gain weight! whyyyyyyyyyyywhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Ok I gained 2 kg after eating BBQ on sunday but now i'm back to normal again. sigh. nooo.

Had decent luck at the mahjong table (ok had a pathetic losing streak, but then had a winning streak after that) and quite good luck at taiti (either first or second). haha. And I just got introduced to a new variation of mahjong (there's seriously too many variations) and it's damn fun! :D

And the CCTV CNY concert is good too. Really enjoyed the 小品s and the songs this year were good too!

Back to sch tmr. ohwell, nothing much to complain about actl, i'm neutral towards school (for now). Only thing is that I need to wake up damn early. sigh.

Open House is over :( for 3 days now

I feel kinda empty.

Open House was occupying my time until 13th Jan, and I'm not complaining. Maybe there were times of hopelessness (for me, that's during dec. I felt like shit, to be honest) but in the end I say it's successful to a large extent (i rated 13th Jan 8.5 out of 10 i think) :D

Back to academics now. I'm gonna admit it's bleah, kinda hard to snap out of the open house mindset. but i'm ok now, and hopefully i shall focus on academics for at least the next few weeeeeeeks. how exactly i'm gonna do it with orientation, IHC and miscellaneous shit all coming up will be dealt with later.

What a quick year 2009 had been. It has been pretty eventful and on the whole I enjoyed it.

Started, of course, with orientation! O'tiero! (Fine, there was january induction programme, but who the hell gives a damn about that shit) Great OG, great OGLs. Yay. Next year I have the same OG number (BB12), so I hope the OG will be just as great :D

Then there was class after orientation, which to me and hongbo was a major turn-off (compared to our og).

Here's something from my post after orientation. "First day of school, still reported to school in our OGs. Knew our class then. I am in 10S06O, together with Hong Bo. Went to report for Civics and saw (to our initial disbelief) that around half of the class was foreign scholars (it was 15 out of 28).

The timetable for the first week is beyond slack. We had no lessons on the first day. Haha. So after Civics ended everyone zao.

And me and Hong Bo started emo-ing about our class and comparing it with BB12. At that time BB12 owned hands-down."

Yeah. hahah. Ohwell I guess that changed after a while. 6O is actually super fun and craaaazy haha. 6O owns as much as 4B, and that's saying a lot :D

Many things happened in 2009 and the most major one is obviously council. (ok lah, council doesn't "happen" but you get the idea) Yeap.. Started with all the interview and campaigning and ended with council retreat :D

I remember that I din actually want to join council at first. I was *this* close to not joining council, just as Jerald was *this* close to not joining council too.

Yeah.. I couldn't make up my mind actually. During open house I wanted to join Interact club. Then I decided to go for a leadership position in some CCA instead (math or astro). And only then did council come to mind. I filled up the self-nom form but was still hesitating and I only submitted the form on the last day. Then came interviews and campaigning, and here I am today.

Mm, it was definitely a right choice to join council. I guess that there's many areas that I can still improve upon, and there's still half a term left to do so :D

Council retreat was thought-provoking, fun, crazy and meaningful. Mm yeah, gave me an opportunity to look back and see what I did wrong, what I did right and where to go from here. Yup. Not to mention all the games (4 team captain's ball, anyone? how about penguin soccer? or crazy charades?) and the movieeeee. yup. Oh, and the angel and mortal game, of course.

Academic-wise, 2009 was pretty pretty good, better than expected. Haha. Won NUS-NTU astro (whee), did pretty well for CTs and promos and SAT, and yeah, 'tis been good on the whole. Hope 2010 (with its A levels and stuff) will be even better :D especially my econs and GP ><

Overall, I definitely had a lot of fun in 2009. OG outings, class/group outings, wii parties, mahjong playing, JIGSAW PUZZLING (but i failed at the newer one, oops), yeahhhhhh. :D

Then there's orientation after that, so there isn't really a break in the middle at all.

Christmas is over, and the New Year's coming in pretty fast. Spent Christmas playing Wii and mahjong and bridge. Wasn't too bad at mahjong and bridge, yay :D Spent the days leading up to Christmas going to random places shopping (mostly window shopping) and etc. basically i've been super slack recently. lol.

Was at Suntec ytd, and it was strangely very empty. Everyone probably at home recovering from a hangover or overseas or just sleeping.

And Toys R Us has stopped selling nice nice jigsaw puzzles! Like, why -.- Screw you, toys r us, now all you stock are lousy less-than-1000-piece Disney stuff. What happened to things like

hmph. Now only Jigsaw Puzzle World stocks such puzzles, and prices there are highhhhhhhhh. ><

At present i'm trying and failing to complete a new puzzle by the end of the hols. It doesn't help that the jigsaw has no picture on it at all. Haha. The weirdest and most epic puzzle ever, in my opinion. And i got it for 5 bucks, win. Extreme win. Especially when it's super high quality (the pieces are like pieces of metal, not cardboard)..

And next week's council retreat :D looking forward to it.

Today morning

and just now, around 10 mins ago.

I realized that there's a limit to how much of the puzzle i can do per day, after which I lose all inspiration and become very fail. I'm currently at that stage now, so any progress has to wait till tmr :D

Oh yeah, forgot to blog about Geminids the other day. Haha. It was brilliant! Yup, saw 10+, maybe 20 meteors with a couple of fireballs. Could have seen more if Daniel and I weren't fiddling with the telescopes, or if I din sleep for like 2hrs or so. Yeah. But we saw M44 (beehive) thru the telescope, as well as some other cluster (forgot which one ><)

Anyway, 'tis the holidays now. It actually kinda feels like a holiday, WOW. Can't believe. Dunno when the last time was when i felt that way.

Of course, doesn't mean that I don't need to go to school. Have been going to school for decor stuff quite a few times liao. But yeah, now's technically blockout, why are we still doing stuff! Hmph! haha

Yeah, just got a Wii! yayyayyayyayyay so fun haha. And the remotes are wii motionplus :D haha. need more games though. But the games the currently exist are pretty fun too :D

Such a long long time without a proper post.. heh.. I guess I'm neglecting my blog, as I always do ><

Alright, many things have happened since I last posted properly, and unfortunately I don't think I can cover them all.

Well, let's talk about the more significant things, such as PW IS OVERRRRRR. YEAHHHH :D Actually I've got nothing much to say on this topic, except that holy smoke, no more PW for the rest of my freaking life. Oh yeah.

Then there's council stuff, which includes IHC (oh yeah BB FTW. seemed so long ago ><), Open House, Orientation and :D table tennis in the council room. Oh yeah. Although the table is not the actual table (we should totally get the real table tennis table), it's still pretty close to the real thing, I guess it's the best thing that easily accessible in school (:

Council's getting pretty hectic, like there's open house and orientation stuff, but it's also very fun at the same time, I'm enjoying it :D

And YAY I got a new laptop :)) Sony Vaio some more haha. Oh well, about time I guess, since the one that I was using is like, 4+ years old =.= that's like 100 years old in computer years. :D

Watched Everything But the Brain by Raffles Players the other day, and I've got to say that it was fantastic. It was the first Players production I've been to, and I'm very impressed at their skill. Well, especially since I ain't good at those kinda acting and stuff.

Had an internal H3 Physics lesson today. I guess it's ok, but I still haven't decided if I gonna take the NTU physics or the internal physics. Never mind, still have time to decide :D

Leonids and Geminids are coming up! I guess i will go and try to watch the Geminids, but I'll give Leonids a miss.

Been mugging chem and math. graphing techniques have been frustrating me the whole day. damn.

Haha.. during or near promos I realize I do more of stuff that shouldn't be done during exams, like 1) Blog and 2) play piano

Dunno why I blog so often these few days, but they've been short and hence not very time consuming.

Playing the piano... good way to chill and relax (i.e. chillax) after mugging. Heh. And I thought I'm playing better now as compared to a few months ago or the start of this year. But that isn't saying a lot, since I haven't had a teacher since end of sec3. Been playing twinkle twinkle little star and other pieces of similar calibre.

Freaking cloudy today, no hope of seeing the moon ><

Oh, the other day felt some tremors at home due to the earthquake in Indonesia. Lol. But was very minor. At first I though I was dizzy from reading notes for too long, haha. Then I realized a dangling key began swing to and fro.

On a (completely unrelated) side note I hope I didn't screw up somehow. Let's see. Next week. Or today. Or tomorrow.

ONE MORE WEEK.

actually it's 3 more days, since mon and tues are holidays.

But need to do PW and start mugging for stuff. omg.

Past 2 weeks were quite ok lah I guess. Had stuff like house comm interviews, ocomm meetings (I'm in decor, =.=), birthday celebrations, shopping for presents, random astro, MOE Awards presentation, buddy lunch, Chem SPA, Physics SPA, Physics test, EoM, blahblahblahblah.

House comm interviews were slack. Especially when interviewing someone we all know. I wasn't there, but I heard the epic-ness of Ben Yong's interview.

Someone: "What are you weaknesses?"
Ben: "Er, dunno. I am ugly?"
Ellyn: "I agree."

MOE awards presentation last thurs was cool. Saw the usual gang, like Darryl and Gabriel from NUS, Tiansheng from HCI, and the godly J3s like Li Qian, Juanhe, Ronald and co. Food was good, but didn't have the chance to eat alot cauz we were whisked away to take photos -.- 400 dollars of book vouchers! whee.

Birthday celebrations.. hmm. Delaney's birthday this monday. Quite epic. Got cake and candles, no lighter. I had to run to boarding and get one from sunny (and wake her up in the process). lol. And there was Haran's and Jie Liang's birthday celebrations last friday before astro cleanup lol.

Ocomm meeting last friday was followed by dinnerrrrr at Pastamania wheeee so exciting. Haran treated everyone. He says it's a tradition in India for the birthday person to treat everyone. ohman. Thanks haran!

The teacher somehow liked my EoM. How did that even happen? lol.

Buddy lunch on thurs. Kengyong crashed. wth. Found out quite alot of stuff from Juanhe though.

Teachers' day yesterday. Went pretty well I guess. Except that I missed the first part of the celebrations due to chem SPA (which also caused me to miss the bulk of the decor meeting). Liked the performances by the teachers though. The a capella was pretty good (:

Our class gave each teacher a different (of all things) fruit =.= And some "lecture notes" -- notes in the exact same format as the usual notes from the subjects, but with different content (duh). Like physics -- "Thank you for the Fd" (Fd = Work done =.=)

BB House D gave Mr Sim a "beauty pageant" sash and crown. lol. He seemed to like it though. good. hahas.

And it's been confirmed that M.J.'s death was a homicide. ): And today's his 51st birthday had he been still alive.

Went to Vivo today for Operation BLOW sales. Haha. not bad luhh, considering it was vivo. We were quite active I guess. Of course, it can't beat church sales last week, where 320 dollars was the LEAST among all of them (most was 1000+ :O). And it's a single mass only. Today managed like only 100+ in half a day.

Then went to Page One to have a look (the book vouchers are from there heh). completed my Harry Potter collection (finally!) less than 60 bucks for 3 books.

And I saw this magnificent globe of the night sky! holy smoke. 220 dollars though. wargh. should I buy it or save the money for books?

Ohman this week's been crazy.

95% of my time at home was spent packing stuff.

And my super-allergy to dust mites don't help. Sneezed around once every 5 seconds when packing/sorting out/throwing away my super old primary school stuff (I'm wondering why those stuff are still around)

And hence I didn't get around to doing much (if any) work. lol. Most of the work were done in school cauz erm, my desk was covered with stuff that at the highest measured around 10cm. And it's uneven, so I couldn't write stuff on top of it or something. Even had to resort writing some stuff on the floor.

Then Sunday there was Run Boon Lay Run. Interesting enough, haha, running around Boon Lay and stuff and taking photos and etcetc. lol. good way to spend my Sunday morning.

Hi peeps!

So much happened since I last did a proper post.

The Red Parade! It was very good in my opinion. The only regretful part will be that the game show was canceled because XD got a bit carried away. But other than that, it was good! haha. Better than RI's lousy celebrations by a lot (:

Then of course after that was a 4-day holiday woohoo! Played tennis, badminton and table tennis on Friday. Failed a badminton because 1) it was the second time I was playing in 3 years and 2) I just played tennis before that so hand actions (and the size of the racket) is totally different. But I owned at table tennis heehee.

The badminton and table tennis thing turned into a 4B gathering! yay so fun. Around like 20 out of the 33 ppl were present at one time or another lol. brilliant. And there wasn't much planning, just KC emailing and smsing everyone haha. yay must have it again soon (:

There was also 6O-ish (-ish because only like 8 ppl were there) karaoke that day but obviously I din go cauz I erm, chose 4B over 6O lol. And I didn't have much voice that day anyway cauz the previous day was Red Parade hahas.

Saturday -- did PW at Sheryl's house. Haha. At Sheryl's house it's not "Big Brother is watching", it's "Little brother is watching". Explanation:

Sunday not much, watched NDP at night. NDP this year was good eh. Better than previous years'. Made me feel patriotic though I'm not even Singaporean. Oh well, but I've spent more than two-thirds of my life here. And the song this year.. Rock! holy smoke, I like. But out of all the National Day songs I still think "Home" is the best, by a large margin. The rest of the songs, not much difference in my opinion. So let's see where "What do you see" will be on my list. One way of finding out: see if I can still remember the song next year.

Monday -- BB 29ths dinner! Lol, but many ppl last minute can't turn up. Hongfei kena GROUNDED lol, Karishma sick, Ernest and Ruolin got stuff on, so yeah. But we had fun. And the guys (Aaron, Ryan and I) got convinced to go take neoprints. Lol. It's like, damn stressful? What sort of photo taking is that? Camwhoring must be relaxed lol.

Only good thing is that I managed to catch the solar eclipse (on TV). yay.

But I think the CCTV commentators need some (practical) astronomy remedial, diao.

Here's the scenario: just before second contact, only a thin slice of the sun can be seen. Suddenly, the image becomes damn bright and the diamond-ring effect could be seen.

Explanation: The guy filming it (through his telescope, no doubt) took away the solar filter, which won't be needed during totality.

The host and some "experts" at the studio appeared stumped.

Then after that, just after third contact, can see diamond-ring effect again, and etc, and suddenly the image becomes dim.

Explanation: The guy replaced the filter to prevent the sun from sizzling up the lens.

Host: "Why did it suddenly become so dim?"
"Expert": "Erm, I think it's due to cloud cover."

=.=!!! Holy smoke lah please, can get some ppl who have actually used a telescope before??

The Channel U one, which is also koped from CCTV (but another channel) was better, at least they talked about filters and stuff.

Well, all papers have been returned.

And I'm happppppppppyyy with my results, oh yeah.

Shan't say too much, except that I'm especially pleased with Econs (C. If I got an A it won't be "especially pleased", it will be "shockingly astonished" or something to that effect). Hence, so I shan't aim for U/S next time hahaha.

Chem might have been better, but Math Physics and GP (yay for GP, got higher than expected) are all (Y) :D

Today was physics. Lol, i was mugging two particular definitions today morning just before the paper (equilibrium and newton's second law) and they both came out (3 definitions came out in total). yay.

I was sweeping the floor and playing the guitar today. No, not at the same time. And I haven't played my guitar for so long that my D string was so out of tune it sounded like an A string that was sharp =.=

But that's not the point.

Cauz my sweat started dripping onto the floor.

NUS-NTU Astrochallenge ended on Monday, and what can I say..

YAY!

Holy smoke lah, I totally didn't expect the best astronomer's award. Holy smoke. Wheeee. Lalala (see obviously I dunno what to say)

I realized it's only my second individual first in all academic competitions (the first was a P5 math competition). I was second on 3 occasions, including losing to Barry by half a mark last year at ACJC (by answering that Pluto has one moon =.=)

But final round, omg, everyone (Aaron, Haran and Kevin) was very imba, which led to our success =D We led from start to end, wahaha. Ended the trend that RI is last after the first round in the finals (Last year's Astrochallenge and ACJC).

For the first round in the finals we were slightly tyco lah, especially for Aaron's question. But I screwed up Tully-Fisher. Of the 4 ppl in the team it had to be me to pick it :O I would have been more than happy to swap with Haran's or Aaron's question =.=

Then the second round Haran showed some true skill by owning at least 2 astrophysics questions and propelling us to a huge lead. And my use of "Live long and prosper" (the second round was a game round) gave us 10 extra marks. Lol.

Then third round, buzzer round. Questions were generally quite hard, many were not answered by any team/answered wrongly. I saved our team's balls by answering the name of Alpha Andromedae correctly (Aaron was going to say the name of Alpha Aquarii instead, luckily I stopped him). Then I immediately went on to screw up. Wth. Stupid lah. Immediately after answering I realized it was bloody wrong.

"What is the other Bayer designation for Beta Tauri?" I answered Gamma Andromedae. Then I realized Gamma Andromedae was Almaak, plus Taurus wasn't even near Andromeda. Wth. Correct answer is Gamma Aurigae, aiyoh. Stupid. Surprisingly we only got -5 (could have been -20), lol.

Then the next question was "identify the 牛郎 and 织女 stars in Chinese mythology". Lol. Wasn't very hard, but Haran was impressed (since he probably doesn't know).

Ok. Then the rest of the buzzer round we played safe (after answering a blazar question and getting 0 or negative I think) and didn't buzz in at all. Other teams kept buzzing in, but luckily most answers were wrong.

So yeah.. we win again! Yay. 4 inch Maksutov-Cassegrain + Altazimuth mount + Green laser! woohoo.. Dewin and Co. better win again next year. And RI... fourth. :O Next year better start winning again.

But now I'm sick. Basket. Caught a cold. Of all times now. Basket. But I shan't panic just yet lol it's not very serious.

On to the last week of Term 2.

time is really passing wayyyy too fast. way too fast. a quarter of my RJ life is gone. slow down please. really. I like it slower. More time to study, more time for council, more time for excitement, more time to screw around, and most importantly, more time with friends ((:

Sooooooo much occurred during the time i last posted (my birthday =D) and now.

1. Internal elections. I tried to run for BB capt but din get it. But I guess that can be a good thing, cauz Soffia is really capable and stuff and I think she will honestly make an awesome captain. It's a bit too late now to reveal the list of EXCO members so yeah, you guys probably know anyway.

2. Match supports. Yay! Honestly I love match supports. The excitement, the atmosphere, the joy of seeing fellow Rafflesians win, and sharing the pain when they lose. Went for many match supports already, including waterpolo (kaiyu pro), athletics, swimming, hockey (Dylan pro), bowling, netball, badminton, tennis, basketball, and rugby.

3. Invest! Yes, invest was great! Loved it so much, especially the camwhoring. Mostly it went smoothly and without a glitch. Other than the emcee pronouncing my name as "Huiyan". And omg, 6O came up with this huge long banner that says "Congrats Xin Min and Huiyao 10S06O <3s you". I LOVE YOU TOO 6O YAY!

4. Birthdays! Xiapu's birthday on wednesday, Xin Min's on thursday and Kengchee's today! hahahaha. Xiapu's 19 alr (omg damn old), i got him a giant pen (no link to his old age lol). Got for Xin Min a stuffed toy thingy, and had no money left for Kengchee. Oops. Sorryz. But we sang the birthday song for him like 3 times lol.

5. I TOOK OFF MY BRACES WOOOOHOOOOO. but now i have to wear stupid retainers. Basket. Can't even talk properly with them in my mouth.

6. Lessons are generally ok, though i've missed quite a lot of lessons due to MS, i'm still managing well i guess.

Today was Basketball girls' finals and rugby finals.

Basketball... damn exciting. We were behind by 9 points with 40 seconds to go, so we thought no hope left. But then we scored 2 three-pointers in quick succession and had the possession with 1.9 seconds left. Unfortunately the last attempt wasn't made in time, so we lost by 3 points. We were behind by 20+ at one time, so GREAT JOB BASKETBALL TEAM!

Rugby. YEAH WE WON 8-3. very little scoring, like every other final. But the atmosphere at the end was fantastic. I went for B-div finals last year, which we lost. So this year it was kinda like a repeat (ok lah, different venue) and i'm so so glad that we are on the winning side this time. Yeah. You could see that everyone who went down were really very into the game and cheering the players on. Unlike many other match supports. Why can't the other sports be seen as equally important as rugby?

Had physics test today and chem test on wednesday. Hope i do well enough, it will be testament that council is not screwing up my studies (this is mainly to show my parents, who constantly think that council is screwing my life up. IT IS NOT. IT HAS MADE LIFE MUCH MUCH BETTER)

LET'S GO TERM 2 WEEK 10. June holidays to follow, I shall strike a balance between work and play. Obviously class outing and (maybe) OG outing are must-attend activities =D

10S06O for the very nice origami thingy (courtesy of Sun Ying, who's damn pro at it) that were unceremoniously stuffed into my bag (around 27 of them, just thrown in like that!). (sorry people have to cut my post to keep the details secret and stuff xD)

It was tough, it was draining, and it seemed at times impossible.

But we made it anyway. We made it through the camp together as a batch, as a united group of 85 elects, and came out of the camp as the 29ths, as united as before.

There's no point denying that the camp was physically demanding, but it is also good to reflect on the deeper meaning. One such example was the self-reflection activity.

Also, the night walk on the second night (I heard it's called "The calling") was really thought-provoking and actually made me really think (despite the fact that I was super tired and falling asleep).

Other than that, there were lighter moments as well, for instance the house hike on the second day, which was completely slack-y.

And also buddy time on the first day! Wow. I had to say that upon seeing our buddies all sitting at the canteen benches and cheering for us, I felt a sudden sense of warmth, that people out there are actually there to spur us on and support us all the way.

Heaven and hell today morning was... heaven and hell. Hell came first (duh. Better than coming second anyway), heaven after that was... heaven. There was this shiok feeling that "we've made it!" and everyone was high.

Distraction is important, i realized. For instance, during push ups/crunches, focusing on something other than the activity itself is very helpful. Could be anything, the number of push ups left that's constantly decreasing, some song in your head (I sang Viva la Vida and Yellow in my head), (and in my case, and only once) stargazing. =D WOOHOOOOOO. you may think I'm mad, but there you go. I observed Crux and Centaurus while doing crunches on the track on the first night, and I felt that I could go on forever. haha. And I saw Jupiter and the Moon on Saturday morning too (:

Buddy lunch today is great. It's very interesting to discover your buddy family tree, and find out who your grand-buddy is and so on and so forth. My grand-buddy is Juanhe, whom I already know before this, which is quite cool. And hongfei and I are 3rd cousins xD

So all in all, the council camp is a completely different experience for me, and the lessons learnt from it has to be counted in truckloads to prevent it from exceeding 2929 units (random number. ok maybe not so random).

Finally, I have to thank some people. so many people in fact. Firstly Jane, my buddy, for basically everything she has done for me. It makes me wanna be a great buddy to that person out there (some girl currently in sec 4 I presume) who will have me as a buddy around this time next year.

Secondly, my batchmates. So many people to thank. In particular maybe the people that I've talked to quite frequently throughout the camp, such as Patrick, Jerald, Kengchee, Junsheng (4B '08 FTW!), Hongfei, Isaac, Jianxiong, Shanzhi, Joshua, Aaron, Chanel, Xin Min and BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH (sorry, really can't remember). And also everyone who cheered me (not necessary me in particular, but as a batch) on during push ups and other activities. And my fellow BB councillors!

Thirdly, my seniors, who include the BB House Comm (great House Hike by the way!), and our facilitators for facilitation sessions, Shiyang and Jon Lim. Hahaha the two of them damn funny lah.

Fourthly, the CCICs, who erm, made life hard for us. That includes Sambor (I'm still figuring out how he can be both Pinocchio and who he was during the camp) and the other just-as-fierce/not-so-fierce CCICs too.

bleah. first post in nearly 2 months..

argh. too much stuff to say, not enough time.

School's great! haha. (except PW :O) class is great (i'm loving the class more and more =D), lessons are good, teachers are good, yupp (:

time flies, gonna be week 4 alr!

Holidays were great. Played tennis with vincent and shingbo and aaron for like 3 hrs. In the end aaron and I lost narrowly. lol. Also went for class outing and OG outing! haha. And of course there was the math exploration day for pri sch ppl (in celebration for 25th anniversary of GEP. We said that only Ivan do math for celebration.) which was a great success.

Term 2 is really hectic.

Week 2: campaigning. omg. busy like some crap. That weekend only slept for 3 hours on saturday morning, and i din touch my homework (and GC. how is that possible?!?) for the whole weekend.

Week 3: Class camp! Oh yeah man I really had a good time. From the martial arts choreography to the rapping (oh yeah haran) and singing and the nightwalk and fun in the water and the STARGAZING.

Oh yeah stargazing. fantastic. brilliant. fabulous. magnificent. awesome. breath-taking. mind-blasting. very naice. from the big dipper to centaurus, bootes to saggitarius, we saw them all! wahahaha. not to forget the moon (actually it was a nuisance) and saturn and jupiter. damn good. And i am pleasantly surprised that so many ppl from my class enjoy stargazing. =D

Then yesterday elections results came out and MY WHOLE CAMPAIGN TEAM (justine, ellyn, hongfei and me) made it! woooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooo! our efforts paid off! all that spam of stickers and flags and that occasional sandwich man must have been effective in the end (:

Anyway having the whole campaign team getting into council is no easy feat ok haha. i was wishing this would happen, cauz if some din get in it wouldn't have been very good.

Astro yesterday was some buzzer round quiz thingy lol. our group won =D

Supposed to play tennis with vincent and gang today, but ended up playing table tennis with ashish in the school gym due to rain. I won 4-2, 4-0, 4-3 (as in, 3 matches of first to 4 games lol. in the end we were are damn tired)

next week's gonna be as busy i think, got council camp somemore. bye for now (dunno when's the next time i'm gonna post)

TWO weeks of school have already passed!

Let's divide my blog post into 4 sections (haha) -- Class, Lessons, OG (=D) and others

Class
First day of school, still reported to school in our OGs. Knew our class then. I am in 10S06O, together with Hong Bo. Went to report for Civics and saw (to our initial disbelief) that around half of the class was foreign scholars (it was 15 out of 28). Vincent is in the class though, and so are Keng Yong, Han Qiao, Vince, Kai Yu, Gia, Ming Jun, Zhiwei, Yetao, Qingyou, Zhang Liang, Xu Ke, Haran, Manek, Jiahui and Daniel Lim. That's 18 out of the 21 guys in my class. And there are 7 girls. I only know one of them, Junyi. Right.

Our CT is Dr Fang (an econs teacher)

The timetable for the first week is beyond slack. We had no lessons on the first day. Haha. So after Civics ended everyone zao.

And me and Hong Bo started emo-ing about our class and comparing it with BB12. At that time BB12 owned hands-down.

But it was too early to assume anything, so on Wednesday we had some ice-breakers. Which went pretty well in my opinion, at least everyone turned up. Haha. So it was ok larhh.. But still wasn't that good.

2nd week the class got better. We usually eat together and talk. But usually the foreign scholars (led by Ming Jun no doubt) don't seem to eat. I can only assume they are in the library mugging (led by Ming Jun no doubt) (or maybe sleeping).

Thurs there was a free block after the first period, and we played captain's ball! haha. Without giving a damn that our shirts got soaked (no one bothered to change although they had PE since there was PE on that day).

And Friday.. omg lah. PW teacher not there, so we had to do our own stuff. But a bunch of crazy people (led by Haran) started doing the batch dance and singing the batch song. haha. but in the end we still managed to finish our stuff (and decide on the colour scheme of the class T-shirt too!)

All in all, our class is a fun class. My only disappointment is that the scholars always seem to disappear (for captain's ball, only like 3 male scholars were there. All the girls were there somehow. WHY ah) very quickly after lessons. Perhaps they can mug a bit less and enjoy the class a bit more. Haha... Just my opinion.

With 13 non-scholars (and only 8 who are actually born in Singapore), it is (i forgot according to who) damn easy to organize class outing during the holidays! only need to consider the schedule of 13 people instead of 28 people! but then again, it won't be a class outing anymore haha..

All in all, my class is quite good up to now. We actually sat in a circle to play games! although the circle is quite small due to missing people...

Lessons
Lessons for the first week was 1. damn few, because of lectures and 2. damn slack, because the first lecture of each subject was introductions.

But by the second econs lecture I started to love econs. =D

And who could forget that so interesting physics lecturer? Wahh ~~heng~~ so unlucky I only had that lecturer for one lesson...

On thurday we received our new (and permanent) timetable. aiyoh. Nightmare lah... Some other classes have it so much better.

Mon end at 13.25 (1 free), Tues 3.15 (1.5 free), Wed 13.25 (no free. omg), Thurs 4.10 (but wait for this... 4 free. omg), Fri 3.15 (1 free). Sigh.

Thurs is like super slack due to the fact that out of the 5 periods, 1 is civics and 1 is PE. Monday is relatively relaxed as well. Fri is a killer though, 6 real periods + 1 PE.

Individual subjects -- no complaints whatsoever. Seems like our teachers are all quite good. I (and Vincent) think that we got the better math RA teacher. haha. He seems much more approachable than the other teacher, who reminds me (and everyone else) or Mr Kwa. Physics and Chem teachers are also nice, with a (maybe a bit weird) sense of humor :D But our econs tutor has an even weirder sense of humor hahaha...

OG
YAY! Our OG still meets daily at the watermelon steps in the morning. Although there's always only like 10 people there :( c'mon everyone get to school earlier lah aiyoh lazy people.. xD

And we have quite a few outings! Including after the first day of school, where we sat in a circle (the turnout rate was brilliant) and played random games, including a "camwhoring game". Lol. Some photos on facebook hahaha..

And then there was the other day where we sat in a circle in school and played "winking" murderer and stuff. AND snapjack (more commonly know simply as snap). Yu Ting and Hongfei were declared the losers in that game. hahahahaha..

Of course there was Roy's birthday! The prank (to be played on Roy) failed miserably, but cake smacked into Hongfei's (who devised the plan as well as made it fail) and Dylan's faces was something not to be missed.

Haha and there was OMG and stuff last Friday! whee! We had a great time playing captain's ball (and suanning hongfei, who seemed to be unable to do anything right at first). haha. Not a lot of ppl turned up though, which is becoming like the norm for OG outings/gatherings. Not good ): One of these days everyone must turn up for an outing ok! haha.

Others
Others would include things like CCA and stuff.

Everything's going fine, been to astro, math and bridge club, been to math olympiad training, been to interhouse bridge competition.

Astro stargazing last friday! Oh yeah. Such wonderful weather and brilliant night sky. Saw orion, taurus and the lot. But (as usual) had trouble identifying stuff seen in telescopes. As in, we couldn't be sure if the thing seen is really, say, M37. Lol... Still needs improvement.

Hello everyone! =D

Wow. School's already started! omg.

Orientation ended last fri ):

My OG was BB12! Ohnowe'verunoutofOGnames!

AND MY OG OWNS. REALLY OWNS.

Haha somehow from the very first day of orientation our OG was already very spontaneous and enthusiastic about everything (:

Day 1 (Mon) started with some intro and stuff, followed by Storyline! Which was pretty funny and hilarious. Especially when the curtains just opened, and 5 ppl were standing on stage looking very serious, and they suddenly started dancing =.= Oh, and one of the actors was Sambor, one of BB12's OGLs :)

Following that was ice-breakers. Pretty standard games lah, including whacko haha..

Lunch, +(this is only the start of it) sit-in-circle-and-play-random-games! We played stuff like concentration and i've never, which resulted in several evil evil people saying evil stuff. e.g. I've never studied in a girls' school.

Next was station games. Played 4 games, one of which was "actionary", i.e. guess the phrase being acted out. The girls owned at it. e.g. How do you act out "CSI"? Evidently, what you do is hold up a marker and look at it. =.= Another station game taught us that we PHAIL at scissors paper stone. Kept on losing. Aiyoh. Must mug.

Then killed some time (until dinner) by playing captain's ball with another OG until the tennis coach came to own us cauz the basketball we were using kept dropping down onto the road, which means it could have damaged cars/people's heads.

Dinner -- went to Thomson Plaza just to find out that the Kopitiam there was closed. Hence, ate at Subway. Talked for a very long time after finishing the food. lol.

Day 2 was Dance + EA (External Activity).

Dance was ok, but i think we were a bit skeptical at first. Especially it seemed so HARD. My dance partner was Christabel and at first we couldn't get the high-five part correct. Lol. But in the end I think we did pretty well lah :D

EA was tiring but adequately fun. As in, wasn't really that fun (especially since it was so tiring). At first it was around Bishan, and the guys were leading the way. and screwed up. Cauz firstly we planned a route such that we will visit every station (there wasn't a need to visit everything) and secondly we only read a piece of extremely important info too late.

Then our next venue was Bugis, so obviously (duh. Shopping paradise?) the girls led the way and the guys just followed. Started raining halfway but (lucky) stopped after 5 mins.

End destination was Hong Lim park, where the winners and losers (top and bottom 5 OGs) were announced. 4 out of the 5 bottom 5 OGs were MR =.= dunno why, I think it's because different places had different difficulty levels.

Day 3 began with Inter-house Competition opening, during which every house captain had to sing. And (sorry about this) the MR captain just couldn't sing. Bleah. I mean, the other 4 weren't brilliant, but at least they could hit the notes OK.

Dance + Batch song after that. Our batch song, "when we look back", is very emo (as all batch songs are) but is damn nice! very catchy.

WAR GAMES in the afternoon. There was supposed to be 4 games. I liked the tower defence one best. And there was (evil music) strip me if you can. Basically there's nothing much you need to know.

If you are a guy: Step 1. RUN away from girls from any other house. Step 2. repeat step 1 till end of game

If you are a girl: Step 1. Pair up with someone from your own house. Step 2. ATTACK any guy from any other house you see. Step 3. Repeat step 2 till end of game.

So obviously it was a game from which the guys left traumatized and the girls delighted/happy/more sadistic then ever. haha..

Day 4 -- half day, song, dance, + tile painting. Many people changed it to a session of face painting though haha..

Day 5 was Take 5 in the morning! Reached early and kicked a ball around (like we always do), and then sat in a circle and played games (again!) such as the "where's the 10 cent coin" game. Then played captain's ball, blahblahblah...

After that got a bit sian and went to bungee castle! brainless fun larh haha. Basically, it's like run forwards as far as you can even though you know you're gonna get pulled back..

After take 5 ended, everyone (except 2 ppl i think) went to Mel's house (which is around pasir ris park) to bathe/change/make presents for OGLs.

Reached school at around 4 to start making the guys' hair stand up like devil's horns. EPIC PHAIL lah. Everyone's hair was phail but some were more phail than others. But who cares, every single person was dressed in some random fashion (e.g. Ben Yong, Andrew Tam).

O'nite was brilliant! Though I think they should have played the proper music for the batch dance and not purposely screw it up. The skit was good, and so was Pinocchio's last performance (as Sambor called it haha).

Following that there was some coolio stuff at the parade square involving fire, and then it was THE END. aiyoh. so emo. Exchanged gifts with OGLs and then went for dinner. Since it was impossible to find anywhere at J8 given that everyone was trying to have dinner, we sat in the playground (in a circle, of course) and ate. and played truth or dare. Then at around 10+ people started going home and it was the end of orientation :O

Well, this orientation was pretty different from the sec 1 orientation. O'tiero focused more on like, OG bonding/spirit. Of course Illume (sec 1 orientation theme) did that also, but then since we were like 13 then, we probably had other things on our mind (e.g. where's our mummys? haha) and we would not have been that daring (or shameless) to do fun stuff (like truth or dare/forfeits). O'tiero assumes that we are all capable young adults (which we are. haha) and so we weren't like, being controlled every single minute.

I feel that the members of BB12 seemed to have been made for each other. We get along so well it seems that we were all old friends or something. I only hope that our OG spirit will be forever present (at least until we leave RJ).

Hello =D

Chinese new year is over... 3 days of basically slacking and not eating meals properly but eating lots of stuff between meals and playing mahjong (damn. got owned this time. Did not have as much luck) between eating and playing bridge between playing mahjong and eating.
Oh, and i went to the science centre to try to watch the partial solar eclipse on the 26th too.

It failed. Such disappointment.

The eclipse was in the afternoon, and the weather was looking horrible in the morning. I decided not to go if the weather continued to be like that. (secretly I was thinking that if the weather lousy and i did not go, we could play more mahjong/bridge/watch the magic show on TV). But around 3pm the sky cleared so we decided to go.

All was well until around 5.40pm (that's like 9 minutes before maximum eclipse), when the sun got blocked by clouds and never got back out again. sigh. sigh.

Such a rare occurrence to begin with.

There's another eclipse in july, but guess what? The maximum eclipse is 10 pathetic %. But if i pon school and go Shanghai/somewhere near there, then i get to see a full eclipse. Oh well.

Tmr got to go school again (today nothing on haha). But now school is just slackkkk... just talks and talks and a lot of talks haha.

Some of you may have seen it on my facebook that i'm addicted to the GC. Ya i am. I dunno why either, it's just so fascinating. like the calculator was my favourite toy when i was like 4 years old, so now the calculator has evolved into the GC. hahaha.

Sheng Siong supermarket sure knows how to scam people.

Yesterday, they were having a sale for chinese new year foodstuffs. it was "4 for 10 dollars" (i.e. 1 for 2.50). The normal price was 1 for 4.50. They said it was the last day of the offer, so my parents went to buy them.

Then today, "buy 1 get 1 free!" (i.e. 1 for 2.25). WOW.

Some more you can't say that they are lying, since the old offer really ended. But who knew a better offer would come up?

I mean, most of the time people would think that "last day" of offer means that the next day there would be no offer right? =.=

Posting again, after like 2 months since the last (proper) post. A picture of the moon cannot be counted as "proper" no matter how you look at it.

1 more week to school.. Actually, I'm kinda looking forward to it. :O Holidays get boring after some time. Wow. Can't believe I'm saying this, but it's true. Either way, it's gonna be R(I)JC, new environment and all that. Should be pretty interesting.

The thing that is quite irritating about school restarting again is the fact that I have to get up damn early. and WHY must there be assembly everyday? And why must there be sex ed again? Are our memories so pathetically lousy that we can't even remember something that happened less then 6 months ago? =.= sigh.

Went on a cruise during Christmas. Went to Phuket, Penang and KL. Unfortunately, could only spend like 1 day at each of the places. Sad lah.

But played plenty of mahjong and cards on the ship. It was so slack (eat, then play, then eat, then play, etc.) that i was surprised that i din gain a lot of weight. =.=

And I saw Mrs Low on the cruise! Lol. The last time I went on a cruise i also saw someone I know haha.

And (sorry i damn damn lag) I watched The Dark Knight on the cruise. Now I know what the hype was all about. It's a damn good movie omg.

Of course (how can i even forget this) I did stargazing on the ship. Although only for 1 night. Cauz the rest of the nights were either cloudy or the ship was docking somewhere, making observations as bad as those from my window. But that one night of stargazing was brilliant w00t. Saw plenty of stuff with my binos, including M31 (which I took 15 mins to find =.=) and stuff liddat. Sky was very clear, could see Pleiades and M42 with the naked eye. (Previously I din believe those books saying you can see them with your naked eye, but now I believe. If you are in some ulu place. Or in the middle of the sea). So sad, couldn't bring my telescope (that would be crazy.) Either way I need a green laser. :)

SIMO has restarted! And for the first session we went through the holiday stuff. Ok... Gabriel made a fool of himself by using differentiation on a question that doesn't need it at all. And Keven Chionh strengthened his status as "the guy with the most screwed up jokes" (that was during lunch).

Better not. Let's begin with class chalet instead. =D 5th-6th Nov.

Reached there late cauz of NSW prize presentation. Brian and I shared the Science prize. Damn. If only Brian din get full marks, I would have gotten $100. Haha

One of the first things I saw when I got to the chalet was Shu Kiat in his underwear. Not a good sight. Apparently he challenged some ppl to strip Taiti and he lost like crazy. And it wasn't Asshole Taiti either. After I got there, he lost a couple more time :O, making it 6 in a row or something. So he should have taken off 6 pieces of clothing, but he only took off 2...

Class chalet was a blast! We played almost everything possible, almost buring up Tony's Xbox 360. played mahjong, cards, mvsc as well. some ppl also played DotA and Generals, and Zhiwei play O2 Jam (some Guitar Hero-ish game on a com). He is godlike, I tell you.

I also took time off (lol. sounds like as if i was working) to stargaze (: Wasn't too bright, but the gate to the beach was locked or else it would have been even better. Saw Orion, Taurus, etcetc. Din bring binoculars along though x(

I ended up sleeping at 4am, if i din try Halo 3 (and get damn dizzy) I could have stayed up longer. I swear not to touch Halo 3 and other FPS games ever again.

Mahjong! haha. I won an above average number of games I think. (:

Some of us went bowling on the next day. I was surprising good. Normally I get like 70+, but the fist game i got around 120. I ALMOST got a turkey (I got 2 strikes + 8) and hence earn 2 bucks from Jie Liang. xD But Mark completely owned the first game with 159 (or was it 169?)!. Then he fooled around in the second game and got 60+. lol

Grad Ceremony on 7th Nov! Everyone went on stage to get an empty folder -.- The reception food was very very good. Watched Quantum of Solace after that. Can't say it was good. Plot... what plot? Too much action, no plot = bad movie.

Right. Now on to my class for 2 years. 3B/4B

33 people came together at the start of last year, knowing probably around 10 people from the class. By 10 people I don't mean really good friends, maybe just knowing the name or something.

Look what 2 years can do to a group of people.

We ended 2008 as a united class, not as 33 individuals.

Last year (I think I blogged about it at the end of last year) began with OBS. Din really know a lot of people. I remember saying to Mark: "Are you Kenneth?" and he replied, "No, I'm Mark". Right... I don't know why that small bit of info was stuck in my mind for so long.

As 2007 progressed we started to know each other better, but we still weren't very bonded as a class.

This year, 2008, was the year that showed our class really coming together as one. Perhaps I will remember best us mugging for the EOYs. Although we were all aiming for some high GPA, (some maybe 4.0, some maybe 3.8, but nevertheless) tons of notes were shared, people never hesistated to help each other and we helped each other through it all. Congrats, 4B!

Of course our class is not just about mugging. Some people brand our class as mugger class, but these people should think again.

SHOW ME ANOTHER CLASS IN RI THAT HAS INVENTED A GAME AS BRILLIANT AS PRPP.

Can a mugger class invent a game like PRPP? Surely not. A mugger class wouldn't even dare to break the school rules.

Just so you know, PRPP breaks 1 school rule, but in the process of playing it, more rules may be broken (e.g. untucked shirts, eating (due to hunger from the intensity of the game), etc).

PRPP is without doubt the bestest game in RI. Credit goes to Vincent, Jie Liang and I who invented it last year. Ever since, I have been the sole supplier of equipment. (I knew it, I should have done something, i.e. charging people for equipment) Usually it was just a few of us, but towards the end of school this year, more then 10 people were involved in the game! woohoo!

the 33 people who make up 4B '08 are all special in their own way. As we part (or have already parted), let us not forget the times that we had together. Perhaps I should do a short summary and summarize everyone (except me) in a sentence or two.

Dennis: Quiet guy, but quietly imba as well.

Keng Chee: Acts cute to gain people's sympathy (hmm...), dao-ed by Ms Yong approximately 20 times.

Patrick: No need to act cute (since you are already cute. haha). Large ego (for your size xD evil particle, eh?)

Gan: With Jerald Han makes a very good comedy pairing. Not to forget cool orange specs and chairman of RIGE!

Bo Jian: AOT! Unique style of Kung fu that never fails to stun.

Jerald: With Gan makes a very good comedy pairing. PLUS extremely good imitation of all sorts of people and accents.

Yetao: Good mastery of the Chinese language -- large variety of "flowery" language.

Jie Liang: point mass (though recently replaced by Patrick as the "particle" or "patricle"). I guess you will have to be satisfied with antenna.

Leonard: table tennis pro! PRPP pro too! haha.

Jinghui: The TRUE IMBA. Shown by English EOY results.

Tony: (you're shorter than Barry, I just realized) excellent speaker, anime freak (how much anime on your com again?)

Shneg (Jun Sheng): you seemed very emo in sec 3, haha. But recently you have been designated "clean hamster", much better then emo kid. And you make a good couple with Kenneth (or is it someone else? xD)

Ivan: MATH.

Ben Low: PSP and mvsc imba. Fights with Gan randomly :O

Yingxiang: ATM! haha. Chinese pro and target of suanning by Ms Yong.

Lumpy: When playing PRPP, seems to hit anywhere but the windows. Prefers chem to anything (i hope...) owes someone 10 dollars.

Gia: Another hacker.. haha. I think vincent requested stuff to be hacked.

KY: erm. I have no idea how to describe him. Let's just say that his thoughts and ideas are somewhat... unique and sometimes weird.

Zhiwei: Omg O2 jam imba! Sometimes acts blur but he is actually pro-er than you.

Mark: Haha. Shark? Rhino? Hippo? I'll go for shark =)

Barry: Hmph.. best known for studies? Nah. Best known for flirting more like. Solar power racing car club (?)

Long: Hmm.. din really see him very often in school this year, especially towards the end xDD

Vincent: Very suan, very pro (in PRPP as well). Provides "stimulating company" (in his testimonial) in the form of math questions.

Er Dong: Very violent reaction when losing at PSP game. "Doesn't" eat in class at all.

Ming Jun: ultra mugger (even his facebook says that!)

Xiong Wei: Sleeps in class (and get owned by Mr Kwa). Pro at soccer. Attacks people (like me) randomly

Ben Yong: Ah. Poser but he denies it. Only Lit student in our class!

Right. Past week was slack (except for Monday, which was exam).

Tues -- stayed at home the whole day, slack around, did some math (note: not becoming Ivan. Ivan will NOT slack around. He will continuously do math)

Wed -- basically the same =.= yeah I know i'm not utilizing my free days well. Who cares.

Thurs -- Math RA placement test. Good standard. Perhaps slightly easier then SMO Senior. Or maybe slightly harder, depending on how you see it. The open-ended were definitely easier then SMO second round though.

Evening -- AMC prize presentation. Didn't get full marks for both AMC and AIMO. :( I feel stupid for not getting full marks for AMC. Getting your picture up on Zaobao is one thing, but I didn't get full marks not because I can't do a hard question, but because I missed one word in an easy question :(

But still got more $$ then several ppl. Haha.

Barry's name was pronouned wrongly ("Tng" pronounced as "Ng") and spelt wrongly ("Tng" spelt as "Ting" on his cert).

Friday -- physics RA placement test. Thought it would be quite hard like the math one, but it was =.= easy. so was (I heard) chem and bio. which were like, O-level standard.

Today -- nat team training in the morning. quite good, quite fun, and quite productive.

And now i'm slacking. =D

IT'S OVER =D

After dreading it for weeks/months, the EOYs have finally ended.

But there's still RA selection tests and O-level HCL. Never mind. EOYs were definitely scarier.

By a miracle I may be able to pull up both English and SS to 4.0. But open your eyes and read "miracle" over and over again. Yup. SS need 27/30, English 39/45. Not exactly impossible, but I will be damn happy and celebrate for maybe 3 days if that happens.

As for the sciences, should maintain 4.0. The abit scary thing is History. needs 30/40 for 4.0, which is ok, but history being history, i will never know until I get the script back.

Today was Math. Paper 1, no bonus, i.e. careless then GG no full marks. Which was what i did =.= Some more, might minus 1/2 mark for the graph, because the teachers think we are robots and expect graphs which are of the same standard as those produced by Graphmatica.

Paper 2 five bonus marks, did 4 of them, should be ok. sigh. why can't they just have a 3 hr long 120 marks paper haha. Then have like 6-8 bonus marks or something.

Math paper 2 is the paper that I have the highest chance in getting full marks.

Shall stop talking about EOYs since it's already OVER.

Haha. Played table tennis with Brandon, Kevin, Leonard, Dewin, Matthew, etc ppl after school. Kemama shop there was stuffed full of ppl (like 12 people there and some more we were playing singles), so we decided to go Bishan Sports Hall! Haha. $1.50 per hour, not exactly that expensive, and we get good table, proper net and little queueing up. HA.

SIMO has started. Last sat was the first session, din do much except for ice-breakers and stuff. Barry and Vincent were the only two who pon (to mug MEP. What else?). I sat beside Jeremy Sia who kept on showing me that his phone display pic was a person whose name is (you know who it is). yucks. He was also trying to do a trigo question in a math worksheet, and he could not do, neither could I, and neither could jia-han (who said he forget the cosine addition formula. =.=) Lucky that question din come out today.

I shall stargaze one of these nights at Pasir Ris Park. In the meantime, I shall wait for the moon to become a waxing cresent (maybe another 15 -18 days) so that I can observe it out of my window at 8-10pm. The last time it was there I had to mug for EOYs (which are now over. I can't stop reminding myself) and hence missed it despite me telling my mother that it was a once-in-a-month opportunity!

And I MUST see at least one meteor shower by the end of this year. There's the Geminids and Leonids, let's hope I won't miss both.

Class chalet coming soon! and so is Grad Night and graduation ceremony. Which reminds me, I will still be in RI next year. =.=

By the way, Nigel was wrong. Refer to my August 30 post this year, in which I said Nigel said that RG will be merging too. And hence he was wrong. So much for "Trust in Fong, you won't go wrong".

Tried to stargaze out of my kitchen window the last two days. Results weren't very good.

Probably due to:
1. Damn small place for observation (blocked by other flats, etcetc)
2. Light pollution (damn serious pollution ok)
3. Stupid person operating the telescope (that would be me).
4. Damn small space to move around (that would be the kitchen)

But still, managed to see stuff like:
Antares
Shaula
Kaus Australis

However, do note that these are useless because they are completely boring stars that can be seen with the naked eye -.-

Well, at least I got to see Jupiter and its four Galilean moons. That was the only satisfying part though.

Because I wanted to but didn't see:
M6, M7, M8, M20, M22

Here's the worst part: I saw the stars on one side of M22 and I saw stars on the other side of M22 (I checked Stellarium). But guess what, when I moved from one side to the other, there was no M22 in between. Like, wth? It's damn screwed.

Term 3 has finally ended! wahaha

HMT O-level prelims ended too! haha. hope I do well. Currently I think i'm getting 16 for cloze, which is pretty good! yay. off to a good start xD

Yesterday was teacher's day celebrations, and I somehow was asked (by no other than Nigel Fong) to take part in some trivia quiz against the HODs that Mrs Chua kindly informed us that we (me, nigel, barry, jeremy and ashish) were bound to lose. Duh. We were speculating that either the questions were so crazy that only the teachers knew the answer to (e.g. what is the birthdate of a certain teacher?) or that the teachers knew the answers beforehand (i.e. it's scripted, but only for the teachers).

so on that day itself, we were less than surprised that the answers were pasted onto the tables where the teachers were supposed to sit around. We were more surprised, however, that the tables were just there on the stage before the start of the whole thing, and we were quite free to look at it. Since we obviously didn't want to lose 18-0 (total: 18 questions), we memorised most of the answers. ahaha.

So the real thing came and we buzzed in to answer some seemingly impossible questions (e.g. what is the birthdate of immanuel kant). but in the end we lost. kinda on purpose. but no score was kept anyway. the emcees just said that the teachers "won by a large margin". hmm. wonder what would have happened if we actually won. hahahahaha.

alot of people seem to be into table tennis now, wonder why. perhaps it's because of the olympics, but i think it's because there now exist a table at the prefect's room. which is like the gryphon's lair thing we had in sec 1 but since then had disappeared. but the table sucks. and all of a sudden someone told me that we can play in the gym, where there is plently of good tables with nets. haha. and that means we can play singles for a long time without being interupted! haha

stupid weather nowadays, wanted to play tennis with vincent and mark yesterday, and this STUPID DRIZZLE prevented us from doing so. like, wth? the drizzle was like, nearly not there lor. diao.

and yesterday went for some IJSO sharing thingy which saw me say "trust in fong, you won't go wrong" and approximated 10 times.

and fong says that RI, RG and RJ are all merging (which is not true the last time I heard). Li Ting vehemently denies, saying that she's a student of the school, so she should know. but vincent says "trust in fong, you won't go wrong". let's see who's correct. i think fong will win, because "trust in fong, you won't go wrong" (except for about 2 or 3 times on the day of CHAOS finals)

Usain Bolt is a slacker. And an imba.

So imba that he takes his time in the last 20m, looking right (better than in heat 2, in which he looked both left and right, as if crossing a road, and decelerated faster than an F1 car. Perhaps he did it for the other races too but I din watch, so yeah), raising his arms slightly (increases air resistance hello??) and thumping his chest. Whatever.

And still wins by 0.20 seconds (which in his speed is more than 2m). Asafa Powell somehow failed to impress. I think Bolt looked to his right to find Powell, and he realized he wasn't there, so perhaps he was like "lol" and started the celebration. And i just read that the shoelace on his left shoe wasn't tied when he ran. wth.

Singapore lost to China in table tennis. Not surprising. I am totally stunned at the imbaness of Zhang Yining. The last time I watched, she wasn't that pro (but that was 4 years ago at the Athens Olympics lol.).

Nadal won. haha. And he's world number one from today onwards. And he has won both Wimbledon and Roland Garros this year. He is owning.

At least Federer got some consolation with a gold in the Men's doubles.

Lin Dan owned last night. It was either 1) Lee Chong Wei wasn't playing well or 2) Lin Dan was too good. Not sure of which one, but Lin Dan's cross-court smashes are just crazy.

Shawn Johnson must be kinda sad, since she got silver 3 times now (team, all-round and floor).

Liu Xiang is injured and pulled out. ): Can't really say he's at his best now, but I really wanted to see the race between Liu Xiang and Robles. Sigh. Can't really do anything now, but i'm sure that 1.3 billion people are probably quite disappointed.

Wow. Olympics' getting into my brain. lol

congrats to Singapore for making it into the finals of the women's team table tennis! haha! finally ends a drought of nearly 50 years.

Watched Phelps today morning. I just realized it's the first Phelps' individual final that i've watched live. haha. It was super exciting, and Phelps did some of his magic again (which ALWAYS comes after the turn), and won by 0.01 sec. With 10 meters to go, it seemed that Phelps was not gonna get his 8 golds in one Olympics, but omg, he caught up and won. Exhilarating.

And everything seems to be damn exciting sia. like, table tennis (yesterday and today), badminton, swimming, etcetc. Siao. To think that i need to wait another 4 years after Beijing 08 ends..

Watched 100 m semis just now, and guess what, Tyson Gay screwed up. Weird. He slowed down at the end when he was in fifth -.-||| Now it's just Powell and Bolt.

RAGE XIII!

haha ok that was yesterday. (:

sigh that was my 4th and probably last RAGE concert. oh well.

But i have to say it was the most enjoyable and best concert out of the 4.

like duh. 2005 can't really count. cauz i performed 2 pieces only (haha and that was only because i skipped the sec1 class and went to sec2 class. the sec1s only performed 1 piece that year ahaha)

2006.. was in main ensemble already! oh lol. cauz the other sec2s were still performing 2 pieces only ahaha. ok random. But also it was my first small group. "美丽的神话" with kiaboon, daniel, eugene gan and victor. haha. i remembered that we started only like 1 month before the concert, but we managed to pull it through and kinda did well (: no wrong notes, as far as i can remember. of course to add on to that there was 6 or 7 main ensemble pieces.

Then 2007. Played a duet with daniel (: but wth lah i lost the score ): but i remember it was called "somewhere in time" (hope i got it correct). The piece was emo, and we did well. Although daniel was kinda nervous cauz he screwed up the rehearsal. but who cares about the rehearsal? haha.

Then it's this year. Played a small group (Spanish piece. Albeniz. I like) with Barry, Aaron and Yuchen. Was confident. Only problem was, we went immediately after Wai Kit! Like, omg. FYI, Wai Kit is the really imba guy whose solo is pro pro pro pro pro. Seriously. Easily the pro-est dude in the ensemble. So we were like, damn, why us of all people?? And Yuchen was the funniest. full of random stuff in an attempt to boost our confidence.

E.g. "C'mon! We have 7 RAs among us!" (to which i answered, "if we have huai jun instead of you, then we will have 8 RAs." xD)

Then Yuchen countered with "We still have the highest average GPA!" -.- fine whatever.

But in the end I thought we did very well (except one harmonic, but barely noticeable). Haha. Anyway, to prevent people from thinking that we keep playing wrong notes (cauz you know, Albeniz, like all the composers at the period, tend to write dissonant stuff), we told Nicholas (the emcee) to say that our piece contains complex and unconventional harmonies. And still, some 4B ppl tell us that we keep on playing wrong note. damn, we din play a single one lor. diao. should have known and played a piece with more conventional harmonies, like for example twinkle twinkle little star or mary had a little lamb.

This year's concert was also good because of the SINGING. Everyone who tried to sing sang well enough. Of course, we got Marcus Lee singing for the rock band, which was (Y). And eugene's singing was good too (imbaimba). Not to forget Kengchee and moses' duet.

Well that's that. Oh yeah, Kengchee was emoing cauz he missed the photo-taking of the 4B dudes. haha..

Anyway now's APCG week, no school! Finally can slow down the pace slightly. =)

TIME TO POST! =D

ok sorry if i am high..

cauz we just won NUS-NTU Astrochallenge! yay!

Well it started last Friday. No actually way before that. We were supposed to design a spacesuit to some place as the "project round", so we met up at Aaron's house last weekend to do. We chose to do a spacesuit landing on Europa by the way. Haha. Aaron's house is like way cool. But actually in the end we weren't distracted too badly. Granted, we watched youtube halfway through brainstorming, and played X-box at 2am after finishing brainstorming, but what the heck, we still managed to complete the whole thing by the next day, approx 9pm! (I left at 6+ though). Haha. We thought we better win this cauz: 1. We put in alot of effort and 2. Aaron sacrificed a shirt and pants worth alot of money.

So yeah.. after that was mugging, but that was hindered by NUS Physics Open House. Speaking of that, vincent, me and ziyang owned it completely. like seriously. Haha..

Friday was the first day, we had MCQ, Data reponse (DRQ) and the project presentation. MCQ was individual, thought we did ok (obviously we din do really well cauz best astronomer went to someone in BPGH). Then came the DRQ. There were 5 questions, and 4 ppl in the team. At first I was doing the relativity question, then there was a Moon question that seemed to have stumped Wenjie and Aaron, so I stopped to do that question. Which in the end I did manage to do quite well (I hope). So in the end we thought we did well for DRQ.

Then came the project round -- the one that we wanted to win quite badly. Haha. The spacesuit is really quite cool, I even acted as an "alien" and then getting killed by Nathanael's "imba" laser (obviously the laser wasn't that imba). Haha.. We were quite confident, and in the end we did win! Yeah! And that gave us an edge over other teams as well, since preliminary scores are counted towards final placing too.

Spent the majority of the weekened mugging britannica, which I discovered to be a surprisingly good source of astro and astrophysics knowledge.

Then there was today. First was special round, which was some sort of a game. We kinda won among our group, which was us, 1 HCI team and 1 NUSHS team. Nothing much, so...

Then.. (drumroll) final round! Haha. The teams that got in were: RGS 1, BPGH 1 and 2, and RI 1 and 2. Kevin Kwek was surprised, I remember him saying "if we get in I laugh".

First round of finals was individual round, which means that 1 guy supposed to answer a question without help. Both RI teams (especially us) screwed up. A combination of bad luck (some other questions were much easier), panic and noobness. We screwed up so bad that we were the only team with negative marks after that round. haha.

Second round was "Bail or no bail", which is copied from "deal or no deal". Can't be bothered to say much, read Dewin's blog for more. After that round, however, we were in second place! like, lol! haha.. Were behind BPGH by 17 points or so.

Then we owned the buzzer round. Haha. Great job to all. I was responsible for buzzing in, and I think I was a bit too fast. Some teams complained that their buzzer got problem, but after checking there turned out to be no problems. Lol. Maybe I buzzed too fast. Haha. Cauz the format was that the question was read out, and only after a signal was given then we can buzz. So we first decide whether we can answer, then I just wait and buzz in as quickly as possible.

In the end I did miss a few questions: some Calabi-Yau space, and a Heisenberg uncertainty principle one. But missing the latter was good, RI team 2 got it, and then managed to get third! Or else RGS will be third. And speaking of RI team 2 getting third, Kevin is flabbergasted. Quote Kevin, "I still cannot figure out how we did it". Haha..

So that's that, NUS-NTU Astrochallenge. Next year we shall return again! (By the way, RJ won the senior round, by an extremely close margin. They also won a 6inch Meade reflector (wth!))

Tomorrow going off to Bintan for stargazing! Yay! Must see some stuff. Let's list it here.

Term 2 is like, finally over. omg..

10 weeks of frenzied rushing of projects. Not to forget the mugging and the whole lot of extra stuff that I need to do.

I'm glad it's over.

But in a few days, "term 2.5", as jieliang puts it, is about to begin.

However, i think this year's "term 2.5" for me is better than last year's. Lemme dig up a post from last year...

Yup, here it is, a quote from a post on may 31st 2007:
"Holidays are here! wow i feel damn relaxed and so free man! like, 4 free weekdays! woo!"

Pretty much sums it all up. This year, I think I have 5 completely free weekdays, and perhaps 3 half-free weekdays. However, since i'm not free on 1 complete weekend, i subtract 2 free weekdays, and so i have about 4.5 free weekdays. better than last year! wow.

well SIMC just ended. SIMC=singapore international mathematics challenge. Ate up 1 week of school, but i'm not complaining cauz i would obviously rather got SIMC than school.

SIMC is in one word, unconventional. In many ways. Firstly the challenge itself. Focuses not so much on maths but its applications. Worse, computer programming comes in handy. Like, damn. My group (alan aw, kang zi yang and me) knows nuts about computer programming. Added to that the fact that we have so many tests and assignments (i remember alan complaining to me a few days before SIMC about the amount of work he has. I told him what i had to do and he was "impressed"), we had to ruch the pre-site challenge last minute. The pre-site challenge requires people to cut glass, by the way.

So it came as only an extremely slight surprise (d surprise, in calculus language) that we screwed up pre-site challenge completely. Then came the on-site challenge, when we realized that we BETTER win something or risk getting completely owned (since the other 2 RI teams both won something for the pre-site challenge). So we tried our best and hey! got a commendation award. Haha. Which is approx top 20 (out of about 60 teams) or sth. yay. haha xD at least din leave the competition without a single prize.

2nd unconventional thing: this thing is international, all the int'l participants are staying at Prince George's Park in NUS. The local students have to stay at HOME. diao. what kind of crap is this? can't even get to know anyone at all. So unlike IJSO. diao.

Ivan went crazy today at the end of SIMC, for unknown reasons. But he is always unpredictable. He also comes from the black hole, according to himself.

That's what nick chee, brian ho and patrick came up with for the pre-site and on-site challenges respectively. haha. amusing.
